Heat Pump Installation

When Heat Pump Installation is the Right Fix

Replacing both AC and an electric furnace/strip heat
Want lower heating bills than gas or electric resistance
All-electric home or going off gas
Pairing with a gas furnace for dual-fuel backup
An aging AC that's due anyway
Interested in the efficiency tax credits

Heat pumps finally work in Kansas City winters

Older heat pumps gave up around 35°F and leaned on expensive electric strip heat. Modern cold-climate heat pumps with variable-speed inverter compressors hold most of their capacity into the teens and below — comfortably covering the vast majority of a Kansas City winter on the heat pump alone. One outdoor unit replaces both your AC and a big chunk of your heating, and runs more efficiently than either.

Dual-fuel: the best of both

For homes that already have gas, a dual-fuel setup pairs a heat pump with the gas furnace. The heat pump handles heating efficiently down to a 'balance point' we calculate, then the furnace takes over for the coldest snaps. You get heat-pump efficiency most of the winter and gas-furnace muscle on the worst nights, with the system switching automatically. It's often the smartest path in this climate.

Sizing and balance-point design

Heat pumps are less forgiving of bad sizing than a gas furnace — oversize it and it short-cycles and struggles to dehumidify in summer. We run a Manual J load calculation and a balance-point analysis to pick the capacity and set the changeover temperature. We also handle the rebates and federal efficiency tax credits that can take a meaningful bite out of the install cost.

Heat Pump Installation — Frequently Asked

Will a heat pump keep up in a Kansas City winter?

A modern cold-climate heat pump covers the great majority of our winter on its own, and a dual-fuel pairing with a gas furnace handles the coldest nights automatically. We design the balance point so you're never left cold.

Is a heat pump cheaper to run than my furnace?

For most of the heating season, yes — a heat pump moves heat rather than burning fuel, so it's typically cheaper than electric resistance and competitive with or better than gas in milder weather. We'll model it against your current bills.

Are there tax credits or rebates?

Often yes — qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps can be eligible for federal tax credits and utility rebates. We'll identify what your system qualifies for and help with the paperwork.
